Our History

The Greate Enlightened Society of Oculists is a freemasonry society, founded 1742 in Wolfenbüttel, Germany, by Count Friedrich August von Veltheim. After his accident 1763 (he died 1775) and the emigration of two high-ranking Oculists to America, the lodge didn't exists any more in Germany.

In 1765, the Society has been established again by the two emigrants and exists since that year continously.

After world war II, a German lodge has been established again in Frankfurt 1946.

While the first Oculitst has been all ophthalmologist, today the society is open for everybody. The goal of The Greate Enlightened Society of Oculists is a global peaceful coexistence of all nations, races and religions on earth.

 

By end of 2015 3591 freemasons were organized in the American lodge and 273 in the German.
